On behalf of the Programme Committee for the ICEVI 12 World Conference, it is my great pleasure to invite you to respond to this Call for Papers submitting an abstract no later than 15 September 2005.

The theme of the conference Achieving Equality in Education: New Challenges and Strategies for Change reflects the rationale supporting the joint ICEVI and The World Blind Union Position Paper on Inclusive Education of Children with Visual Impairment. This important document affirms the human right of all children who are blind or have low vision to equal access to appropriate quality education as provided for in the

- Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989),
- World Declaration on Education for All (1990),
- Standard Rules on the Equalisation of Opportunities for Persons with Disability (1993),
- UNESCO Salamanca Statement and Framework for Action (1994),
- Dakar Framework for Action (2000).

To support this overall theme, the Programme Committee is seeking high quality presentations in the form of:

- thought provoking papers reflecting innovative practice or research
- interactive workshops
- poster sessions
- new video, CD Rom or DVD materials

We look forward to receiving your abstract for consideration no later than 15 September 2005.

Heather Mason
