MAB Open House was attended by over 1350 persons of whom over 500 were visually impaired persons. The occasion was graced by YB Tan Sri Hj Isa bin Dato Hj Mohd, Minister of Federal Territories and Datuk Ruslin, the new Mayor of City Hall Kuala Lumpur.
This being the fourth consecutive Open House organized made a difference with distribution of door gifts to all and hampers for lucky numbers donated by Nestle, Unilever and Cadbury. The food was sponsored by Lotus Family Restaurant with drinks from Pepsi, ice cream and fruits from Kings, Fruit Plus, Hup Kee and Nelsons, we also served Satay, Cendol and ABC. This year we were also fortunate to have 65 volunteers from, St John's School, Bukit Nanas Convent and University Malaya to help serve the visually impaired persons.
This year had also another special because for the first time a health screening was organized from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm for the visually impaired persons. The screening & tests included cholesterol, blood pressure, body fat with dietary & family planning counseling which registered over 300 blind persons. We had PAP smear test which only registered 30 blind women. All this was run smoothly with 60 nurses and 4 doctors who volunteered from Selangor Family Planning Association, Nurses of Alumni University Kebangsaan Malaysia, O&G Society and MMA, coordinated by MAB family clinic.
The crowd was entertained by 8 blind musicians, 4 blind/sighted vocalists.
MAB also
presented the Educational Awards, Scholarships and Grants to 16 blind
recipients that afternoon worth RM 40,000.00. The awards were given
away by YB Tan Sri Hj Isa Bin Dato Hj Mohd.
