DeafBlind & Multi-Handicap Centre (DBMH)
In 2012, with the grace sponsorship from Berjaya Cares Foundation, Ms.Kavitha Devi Govindaraj was recruited as the Coordinator to establish a new programme called DeafBlind & Multi-Handicap to train blind and multiple-handicapped children between the ages of 1 to 12 years,in 2012 with 5 students. These children are referred to by hospitals, doctors, NGOs and public spirited persons etc. Parents also directly contact Malaysian Association for the Blind, after going through MAB’s website
Objective
- Advocate for early intervention and provide a full range of educational services and training to enable them to achieve the optimum potential
- Support and strengthen families and provide them with information and resources
- Ensure the rights of the children are recognized and incorporated in the daily work
Training provided
- Orientation and Mobility,-Sighted guide ,Protective Techniques and Cane Techniques
- Daily Living Skill
- Motor Skill,-Fine and Gross Motor Skill
- Communication
- Social skill
- Cognitive Skill
- Functional Academic
Days: Monday to Thursday (9:00 am – 12:00 pm)
Age Group:
- Age 1 years old -12 years old
- Unable to attend school due to visually impaired with multiple disabilities – 1 years old -12 years old
